REVIEW: BZRK: Apocalypse

BZRK: Apocalypse (BZRK trilogy, third book)

Author: Michael Grant

Genre: Paranormal YA fiction

Publication Date: 8th May 2014

Publication House: Egmont

My Rating: five stars

Summary:

Noah and Sadie have seen death, and it holds no fear for them. Madness does, though. And losing each other. But they will not sit back, helpless witnesses to an invisible apocalypse. The world is being destroyed from the inside out. It’s time to take up the fight once more, in the streets and in the nano. And they’ll give everything they have to stop the Armstrong Twins.

But are the Twins the ultimate enemy? Nobody has ever known the identity of Lear, the shadowy leader of BZRK. Just who have they been fighting for?

As madness spreads like a plague, one thing becomes terrifyingly clear: this was Lear’s game all along. And Lear hasn’t been playing fair.

My review:
So, the first book in the trilogy (BZRK) was quite confusing and I applaud anyone who continued reading. When starting the second book (BZRK: Reloaded) I knew instantly it was going to be much better than BZRK. And let me just say that this one was even better. Starting from the very beginning you are on the edge of your seat until the very last word. Michael Grant writes the book from many different people's POV which means there is rarely a dull moment. The ending is shocking yet he manages to leave no loose ends.

The basic idea of the trilogy is that nano technology has been created and a company called BZRK employ people to fight against these evil twins in order to save the world from going mad. However for the people who work for BZRK there only options are death or madness. When they lose their biots (little insect like creatures that they control that are so small you can't see them) they will go mad. It's just a question of when.

Michael's writing style is very unique and fast moving and that's why he writes this novel so well. Every character is interesting and has a background even if they're only in it for one chapter. I especially like how he incorporates well known people into the story like Emma Watson and Prince Harry. This makes it feel more real and makes you think that if this technology was to be created in the future, just how devastating it would be to the human race.

When I started reading I had absolutely no clue as to how he would end this series but let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. There are plot twists and so many character deaths it would be impossible for me to name them all however I think this only makes me like this book more realistic. If this happened in real life, death would be inevitable for many people. So when starting this book, or this series, be prepared for death and lots of it.

In this book Michael definitely doesn't hold back so if you're very squeamish I'd stay away from this book. Infact I'd stay away from all Michael's novels. This violence completed this book and it was very truthful to its audience. He didnt leave parts out just to appeal to a wider audience. You also have to use your imagination a lot as much of the book is following the biots and the new look into our own bodies through their eyes. This world (the nano) is just as descriptive and as well thought out, if not more so.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series and this was a brilliant conclusion. Can't wait for Michael Grant's next book; Messenger Of Fear out in September.

I recommend that if you're going to buy these books get the hardbacks as they look beautiful next to eachother, the cover art flows from one book to another.

Welcomes to Vanillin Spine! (still not quite sure if I'm gunna keep this name but...)

About Me and My Blog

I am a Teenager from England with a passion for reading. Vanillin Spine is probably going to be my summer project this year as I have no idea what I'm really doing. Hopefully by the end of summer I will have a fully functioning book blog.

I focus primarily on YA fiction with an emphasis on the paranormal and fantasy, but I also feature  new adult and more comedic relief books too. I started this blog because I love books and I wanted to share this with other people and to finally join the book blogging community. It's about time.

My hopes for this blog is to create a space where YA book lovers can come together over our shared interests, swap book suggestions, and have some fun conversations. I love getting to know fellow YA book lovers, so please don't feel shy about contacting me or commenting.

Publishers, authors, and other bloggers are welcome to contact me with any questions, suggestions, or book recommendations. You can contact me at FreyaDudding(at)hotmail(dot)com

I am happy to review or promote your book! If you are interested, then please read my Review Policy for details or my Review Index to see my past reviews. I look forward to working with you!
